Belarus attends UNESCO World Heritage Committee session in New Delhi

MINSK, 23 July (BelTA) – A Belarusian delegation headed by First Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Aleksandr Korbut is attending the 46th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in New Delhi, BelTA learned from the press service of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Ministry.

"Among other things, the session will examine the proposals of 27 sites for inscription on the World Heritage List, and the state of conservation of 124 sites already inscribed on the World Heritage List, and on the List of World Heritage in Danger. The Belarusian delegation plans to take part in the discussion of the preservation of the transboundary UNESCO World Heritage Site Belovezhskaya Pushcha and will also hold a number of bilateral meetings," the press service said.

The Belarusian delegation also includes representatives of the Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

The World Heritage Committee is one of the two bodies governing the Convention for the Protection of the World’s Cultural and Natural Heritage. The Committee is responsible for implementing the Convention, for examining new proposals for inscription on the World Heritage List, and for assessing the state of conservation of sites already inscribed, on the basis of analyses produced by UNESCO’s advisory bodies and Secretariat. It meets once a year in an ordinary session.
